A doctor in every S1 class in Edinburgh
We are working with Edinburgh Medical School to mark its 300th anniversary, aiming to place a doctor into every state secondary school in the city — 23 schools.
About the programme
The S1 Programme brings doctors and medical students into state school classrooms, with a focus on pupils from widening participation backgrounds. Sessions are hands-on and linked to how the body works.
A doctor, medical student or teacher can lead the session in person, or you can run it online with our pre-recorded videos.
What we'll cover
Rather than following a set script, they talk about their own specialty and their own route into medicine - what they do day to day, what they find interesting, and how they got there. Pupils are free to ask whatever they like.

We provide supporting materials, but the session is led by the doctor's own experience, which is what makes it work. We are particularly looking to support pupils from widening participation backgrounds.

Event Highlights
Everything provided. Your doctor brings what they need and we supply supporting materials. Bring your pupils, and we'll handle the rest.

A real doctor, talking about real work. Volunteers speak about their own specialty and their own route into medicine. For many pupils it's the first time they've met a doctor outside a clinical setting.
Time to ask questions. Pupils can ask anything they can think of!
Doctors from every stage and specialty. Our volunteers range from foundation doctors to consultants and GPs, across a wide range of specialties.
